Originally from Brooklyn, Octavius (“Tave” for short) moved to Newburgh, New York, at the age of 12 where school programs sparked his love of all things musical. He learned to play the drums and was part of the orchestra and marching band at Newburgh Free Academy, where he also sang in several choral groups. Always the entertainer, he also performed in a variety of musical plays.
Octavius’ first professional success came as lead singer of “The Sting Rays”, a band comprised of five fellow high school musicians. The Sting Ray’s accolades included a recording contract with Columbia Records, singing a national commercial jingle for Beechnut, a regular gig as the teen band at Kutcher’s Country Club in the Catskills, and bookings in major cities and TV spots all over the northeast. A stint with the funky soul band, “The Silver Caboose”, followed with some tunes released on Buddah Records and an appearance on the bandstand-style TV show, Up Beat, out of Cleveland. From there, Octavius was part of a group called The Renaissance Ensemble out of Brooklyn, which included Nell Carter of Broadway and TV fame. Singing lead in local-area bands, “Thick as Thieves” and “David”, came next. Two other Catskill-area bands followed; “Junction” and “The Mad Hatters” which was the house band at the famed Peg Leg Bates Resort.
As deejaying became more and more popular, Octavius decided to move to that musical entertainment genre and began his deejay career with Party Master of Hurleyville, NY. After several years, he decided to start his own company and “Tave Enterprises” was established.
DJ Octavius has a reputation second to none. As one of the greater New York area’s premiere disc jockeys, he has been entertaining crowds in the Hudson Valley and beyond for many years with a unique style all his own blending talent, musicality, professionalism, and personality.
